David Smith left school at 16 and immediately started an apprenticeship at F.K.GreenSmiths in Long Eaton. A well-established Upholstery company where quality was paramount. David was taught all aspects of the trade, in particular, Deep- Buttoning, which was one of Greensmiths specialties.

In the time that David was there, he completed his City and Guilds certificates in Upholstery and Soft Furnishings.

After 7 years of learning the trade at Greensmiths David was then offered work at Lincoln House Upholstery where he completed another 1 and a half years service.

 

In 1986 David decided to start up his own business, originally from a workshop at home, the business is still continuing to grow 34 years on, David now has his own workshop, showroom and office in Long Eaton. David sees a job right through from beginning to end by going out to meet with clients in their own home (if preferred) to discuss needs/fabrics etc, David is very proud of his work and hopes that his clients feel the same.

At David Smith Upholstery all work is carried out at the workshop in Long Eaton, the cutting and machining are also done on site, David is happy if clients wish to come and view their work in progress.

David Smith Upholstery are happy to deal with the general public, they also offer an Interior Design package, through one of their several contacts, they can also accommodate Contract work.

David is very proud of their achievements to date. In 2009 they were asked to work with the Interior Designer on the refurbishment of Capital0ne Bank™ in Nottingham, where they produced over 90 sofas and 350 chair pads. Capital One had their own specific color scheme, through working with a fabric manufacturer, they were able to design a fabric to the exact colour requirements of Capital One.

In 2009 working along side James Pilling of the NDA Private Clients at The River Crescent Apartments at Colwick, David has accomplished several projects,  including Sven Goran Ericcsons apartment, which was televised and can be viewed on our website's gallery.

 

Since 2016, we have had three highly experienced additions to David Smith Upholstery, in the form of two upholsterers and one machinist.
